Lifeguard TrainingCourse Description: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
The purpose of this course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. The course content and activities will prepare participants to make appropriate decisions about the care to provide in an aquatic emergency and a medical emergency. Students must be age 15 or older by the end of class,6/3/18 Prerequisite Course (Tested on the first swim day) 300 yard continuous swim, treading water for 2 minutes without hands, and a timed event with a 10 pound diving brick. Text Book: Will be provided, however it is suggested that each student purchase their own so they can have it to refer to, especially if they plan to pursue a lifeguarding position. The cost for the book is $32.00 The American Red Cross. (2016). Lifeguarding: Manual. USA. Required materials to be purchased: Personal; Pocket Mask, Hip Pack and whistle.
